Juggling it All

Image
Hey everyone! I just finished my first class of healthy & wellness and wanted to recap on the message that my teacher was talking about. You need to be able to have hobbies and do more than just nursing. Social media accounts, blogs, and other forms of the nursing student phenomenon have probably been shoved in your face about how you'll never have time to do anything other than sleep and eat. Sorry to disappoint you, but sometimes that's true- but to a point. Having hobbies is what might save your sanity through nursing school, whether that might be running a blog, exercise, or watching movies. Choosing something that helps you relax and release stress can lower your risks for cancer, panic attacks, etc.

How does your morning study spread look?

Sometimes being aware of what we are putting in front of us can help give a gauge on how we are studying and what we need to focus more on. Use this to take some time to yourself and begin to outline what you use to study & we can analyze more tomorrow!

Utilizing Resources

As you've probably come to learn, nursing school is its own beast in terms of workload and types of studying. Whatever you have learned throughout high-school or other degree programs, either throw it out the window or use it as a guiding tool (but don't expect it to work).  You have to be very cognizant of your study skills and what works best for you. To find out more about what helps you study, here are some tools that I keep in my back pocket:  Group Study Rooms & Study Groups  Flashcards  kenhub.com openstudy.com/ Singing information as a song Here's an outline that you could use (found off of Pinterest!) to see what you have the most knowledge over and what still needs to be worked on: (Search printables if you would like more of these kinds of documents in the Pinterest search tab!)

Women on the Go

Although I am not in clinicals quite yet, I juggle enough to make myself feel frazzled sometimes. So while I go through my days having a crazy and hectic mindset, I keep a go bag on me. I have learned on what to keep and what not to keep, and I'd love to share that with you all! I currently carry a bag by thirty-one that has a bunch of pockets and enough room for project equipment and personal items. While this isn't the pattern this is the basic nature of what the bag looks like: You can purchase this at: Thirty One Totes Instead of keeping 99 cent deodorant, that is a travel size, think of keeping a spray deodorant! It won't melt in your bag, it can double as a perfume, and won't stain clothing after sweating. Check out dove!  Another thing that IS 99 cents that you can keep in your bag is lint rollers! They're helpful and smaller ones can be super powerful. While on this go this can be a helpful item to keep with you.  I'm still learning, bu...

Why Nursing School is a Great Choice

Image
While the course-work and rigor can seem like too much, the benefits far outweigh anything that someone could be worried about when they are applying for nursing school. Here are some reasons and cool links into discovering more about nursing school: Great career opportunities. In fact, there should be a nursing shortage in 2022: https://www.nurse.com/blog/2016/02/16/u-s-still-headed-for-nurse-shortage/  There are so many variations, and if you haven't learned about travel nursing yet - I recommend looking into it! https://www.toprntobsn.com/50-best-nursing-careers-based-on-salary-and-demand/ While those are just two links there is so much more information to be sought after. Be sure to pay attention to what each nursing school offers, and don't feel scared about asking questions! You are trying to make an educated choice about schooling, so be sure to get every ounce of information that you need, nothing is too small to ask the advisors about.

Nursing School So Far...

Image
I personally go to school year round and have been going since January of 2017, but my school currently has 8-week sessions for classes, and two 8-week sessions a semester. Needless to say, things go by pretty quickly. I am currently in the first-floor study room thinking back on everything I've taken so far. Some of my classes have been online, while some have been on campus in 4-hour chunks. (This might be something to consider if you are starting to apply to nursing schools - pay attention to the small details, they might bug you later more than you think). The entire experience has been quick, manageable, and somewhat insane. Although its all of those things, it does take a while to get used to the pattern, and if you aren't prepared it can whiplash you. (If you feel like anything is ever getting out of control with school always go to advisors and workshops, they help immensely). There is one thing that is HUGE, and that is TIME MANAGEMENT. There's something that they...

Nonprofit Board Member - Meals by Grace!

Recently, I have been given the honor of being offered a position on the board of my favorite non-profit that I have been involved with since high-school. I have loved every second of the work so far, and how fulfilling it has become. Not only are the people, staff, and everyone served incredible inside and out, the experience and opportunity is fantastic. Be sure to check  Meals by Grace & Fill Ministries  out and donate to see our worthy cause move forward!  To give a better handle on my involvement here is my biography that was sent out: Margot is currently enrolled in Chamberlain College of Nursing and aspires to receive her RN-BSN. She has a further goal of attending medical school to become a General/Trauma Surgeon after gaining experience in the nursing field. Further along in her medical journey, she hopes to give medical aid and knowledge to countries that cannot afford medical care or restrict care amongst their...

Introduction

Hey everyone! I thought I'd make a post about the whole of my crazy life along with some tips about nursing school. Most of the nursing blogs that I have found are from current nurses rather than students, and a majority of the help is on YouTube. I also gathered inspiration from http://nursemimiii.blogspot.com/, she goes to my school and gives some great help! I hope to give some great help, and I hope you all can gather some advice from my actions or mistakes (yikes!) Overall I'm excited- woo!
